Learning Opportunities

Soil Basics & Composting

Our series will take place on site at one of our restaurant supported gardens. The Fibonacci Organic
garden has produced over 1 ton of healthy and fresh, organic produce for the cafeteria on site. The
Fibonacci Garden is an excellent model for growing food in creative urban spaces.

 On February 11 from 10am-12pm: Soil Basics & Composting - Learn how to figure out what kind of soil you have with tips on how to improve it. Topics will include basic soil biology for beginners, drainage and PH testing. We will also cover all the details about starting your own compost system from waste to harvest.

March 10th Planting & Propagating - Learn how to grow your own food from seeds and cuttings. Topics
will cover seeding, thinning, fertilizing and propagation from other grown plants. This class will include
some hands-on time planting seeds in the Fibonacci Garden.

April 14th Pest Management - How to keep pesky pests and disease out of your organic garden while using a more holistic approach.  Learn about intigrated pest managment tehniques and how to use organic pesticides & fungicides. 

Registration is open for February Classes at this time. Class fee is $45.00 per class or $120.00 for 3.

The Red Door Family Garden

Follow along as we break ground on yet another RSA (Restaurant Supported Agriculture) project! Trish Watlington from the Red Door Resturant and Wine Bar has chosen Urban Plantations to help her convert this fallow piece of land into a verdant, productive garden that will supply her resturants with fresh, organic produce.

Most of the innital phase of this project is complete as we wait for the heriloom tomatoes and squash to ripen.  It won’t be long before the garden is producing food for The Red Door Restaurant.  Next we tackle the in ground growing areas, the orchards and food forests.  Stay tuned!



Organic Garden at Fibonacci's Bistro

\"They paved paradise...\" well, almost.  Thanks to some forward thinking on the part of developers and resturantures, this plot of land has been saved by the \'dozer and converted to a magnificent mini farm that supports the Fibonacci Bistro in UTC.

We started out growing in raised beds and have been producing for the resturant since October.  This month, we\'re harvesting heriloom tomatoes, peppers, eggplant and more!  Check out the Bistro where you can enjoy food harvested from the garden daily!
