Karen Contreras

Karen Contreras
President and CEO
Karen has been farming/gardening for more than 30 years. She is a Master Gardener, Master Composter and sits on the Advisory Board of Roots San Diego and the Urban Farming Curriculum Committee at San Diego City College. Karen currently teaches gardening classes throughout San Diego and has been a featured speaker for the APLD, the ASLA and at the Sustainable Landscape Conference at Cuyamaca College.

Kevin Garrison

Kevin Garrison
Operations/Construction Manager
Kevin brings eight years of finish carpentry experience to our team. He designs and builds beautiful raised beds, trellising systems, chicken coops and anything else we dream up. A graduate of SDSU, Kevin holds a degree in graphic design and is proficient in CAD and other architectural drawing programs.


Field Manager
Between community gardening and organic farming, Carrie brings over 8 years of experience to the UP team. Completing an Organic Farming Apprenticeship program in Vermont and working long hours on a production farm gave Carrie the foundation and experience she needed to begin her urban farming career at Urban Plantations. Carrie has her BSW and just loves the social and management components of her job.

Jackie Bryce
Maintenance Technician
Jackie has nearly 18 years of professional gardening experience in large corporate ornamental landscapes, private edible landscapes and commercial food production. Jackie holds an associates degree in Natural Resource Management from Sterling College in Vermont.  She has worked exclusively with apples, greenhouse tomatoes and native Hawaiian plants. Her passion and understanding of organic gardening brings a steady and organized perspective to all our garden projects for customer satisfaction and successful yields. Jackie is excited to be working with Urban Plantations and to be a part of the evolution of how we grow our food.

Cody Briggs
Construction Assistant
Cody has over 8 years experience working in landscape maintenance, hydroponic, greenhouse and organic gardening. He has an extensive background in high yield organic gardening and has a passion for high quality results. You can find Cody working on our farms, on our maintenance routes, caring for trees and working on our construction projects.

Brian Flaigmore
Farm Technician
Brian is a graduate from Point Loma Nazarene University and has spent time as an intern at the Seeds@City urban farm in downtown San Diego. He has a passion for nature and loves to be a part of growth. His passion began when he spent several months in Uganda with coffee farmers and now cares for a large garden at his home. He is currently working towards a Nursery Occupations certificate at Southwestern College and is excited to continue learning and growing with Urban Plantations.

Erin Clark
Maintenance Technician
Erin is a graduate of the University of Colorado and worked for Maple Rock Farm, one of the largest organic produce farms in San Juan County, Washington. This experience provided Erin the ability to plan for creative plant rotation in order to maximize yields, as well as a chance to be part of the entire growing process from seed to table.

Valerie Yep
Farm Tech/Marketing Assistant
Valerie graduated from UC Davis where she earned her B.S. in Wildlife, Fish, and Conservation Biology as well as a Masters in Strategic Leadership towards Sustainability from Blekinge Technical Institute in Karlskrona, Sweden. After spending a year abroad learning more about sustainability and urban agriculture, she finally started experimenting with growing her own food. She is passionate about environmental and outdoor education, specifically working with the next generation of gardeners and farmers.
